Illustrations for a monthly drawing challenge
For a drawing challenge set up by chameleocoonj on tumblr, it sets prompt for insect-centred art each day in September.

#5 - Elytra
Cockchafer Beetle
A stoic and powerful bodyguard. The reds and golds take from the beetle's autumnal colouring.

#6 - Web
Peacock Spider
Inspired by aerial ribbon dancers. The delicate ribbons were reminiscent of a spider's web and the arachnids' colouring of gymnasts' leotards.

#14 - Parasite
Cryptkeeper Wasp
An insect assassin. The bright teal and acid yellow of their outfit indicates danger, similar to the bright colours of toxic animals and insects.

#2 - Mimic
Leaf Insect
A fan-dancing burlesque performer. The fans take from the insect's leaf-mimicking appendages and the gold adds extra glamour to the outfit.

#11 - Ambush
Emperor Scorpion
Styled on a classic western wanted poster. The sharp sting and baseball bat indicate this character as being one to avoid on dark nights.

#9 - Antenna
Japanese Click Beetle
Styled after a magazine cover, the beetle is anthropomorphised as a designer with strong influence from modern Japanese fashion.
